Guns on Skidder

Today started off Very Cold and Very windy, but the winds subsided and the Superquad opened, its was still quite cold, but the sun helped a lot. Conditions today were great, Sluice was the best, a little firm in places but mostly just packed powder. Hayburner looked very bad from the top, but was actually quite nice, a little like skiing on styrofoam, but not bad at all and Tote Road was quite good, a little granular and fast.

Snowmaking today on Skidder, Chaser/Lower Double Bitter and Lower Narrow Gauge

Wind Hold

As of 8:25 this morning The Superquad is on wind hold, Double Runner East and Skidway are open

Guns going full force

The Snowguns fired up last night and have been cranking out the snow all day. Its quite impressive how much snow they are making and the quality of the snow is amazing, the snowmakers are doing an amazing job. Sluice and Kings Landing were covered in some amazing retail snow. There were a couple of guns that were a little wet, but nothing serious. Upper Tote Road was also amazing, the guns were blowing perfect snow. I did not ski Hayburner but heard it was a frozen mess, but that should change tomorrow as they will be making snow on it tonight, then guns should head over towards Bullwinkles, and Chaser/Lower Double Bitter and probably Narrow Gauge.

Open Trails

Upper and Lower Tote Road
Kings Landing
Hayburner
Gin Pole
Pinch
Peavy X cut
Sluice
Lower Winters
The Landing
Boardwalk
and Upper Narrow Gauge from Spillway to Gin Pole

Cloudy Day

Today we had some warm temps and it was cloudy, also windy, Spillway was down today. Last night we never got the snow that some weather experts were calling for, but we didnt lose any snow from the rain. Sluice today was quite firm, but better than expected, there was some good snow on the sides. Hayburner was quite nice, lots of big bumps. It was ok as long as you stayed to the skiers right of the trail, also had to watch out for big craters. Kings Landing was decent and Candyside was perfect, you could just rip down it. Tote Road was good, it was one of the few trails that was groomed. Temps should drop tonight and then the snowguns will fire up, hopefully resurfacing and working on new terrain at the same time.

A Great Day

Today was a great day, one of the best so far. I did not ski Hayburner, I heard nothing good about it and it looked pretty bad, but Kings Landing, Sluice and Tote Road were incredible, perfectly groomed, Sluice became kinda scrapy later in the day but never got too bad. We had temps in the high 20s and cloudy. The top of spillway was in the cloud but as you got lower the brighter it became. Work on the magic carpet has begun and ill get some pics of that tomorrow. snowmaking will start up again sometime tomorrow.

Snowmaking is back online

The guns were going and the sun was out today. after yesterday's wet weather, I expected conditions to be frozen, but actually conditions were ok, much better than I expected. Sluice was quite firm, but certainly edgeable with a lot of corn and granular snow. Tote Road was granular but not very icy. Chicken pitch was kinda icy, but not bad. The Groomers did a great job last night and the snowmakers continue to do an amazing job. Spillway East is now open.

Trails Open

Upper Tote Road, Lower Tote Road, Boardwalk, Lower Winters, The Landing, Gin Pole, Pinch, and Upper Narrow Gauge from Top of Spillway to Gin Pole

Snowmaking today on Kings Landing, Candyside, and The Landing. Also 2 guns at the bottom of spillway and 2 guns at the bottom of Comp Hill.

Snowed again

We got a few inches of snow last night/this morning. Conditions today were much better than yesterday. Sluice was still firm, but it wasnt nearly as bad as it was, it was a little more carvable. Lower Winters Way was also much better, they did some resurfacing last night. Tote Road was actually very nice, its all groomed out with the entire trail covered edge to edge, the groomers did a great job last night, you could just cruise.

Snowmaking on Canyside and a few other places this morning, the guns are now shut down. Snowmaking temps should be back Thursday night.

Another Sunny Day

It was quite cold this morning, but the sun was out in full force, there was no wind and the conditions were not too bad. Sluice was a bit firm, actually quite icy. Lower Winters Way wasn't as bad, but it too was a bit scratchy. Upper Tote Road first thing this morning was perfect mid winter corduroy, but became skied up and became granular. Lower Tote was quite granular with wet snow.

Snowmaking today on Upper Narrow Gauge, Spurline, Boardwalk, Tote Road and Kings Landing.

Superquad is now open

The Superquad and Tote Road opened Saturday around 11:30am, they probably should have waited until today for Tote, but its early season, so thin areas are to be expected, there were a few places on Lower tote that were really thin, but today coverage was much better. We got about 6-8 inches of snow Thursday night, it was powder up top that pretty much blew away. This weekend was Tin Mountain Roundup, so there was a good crowd.

Thursday's rain has caused Sluice to be quite firm and icy, it was quite treacherous today, not sure why they had 2 random guns on Boardwalk and a few on Narrow Gauge when Sluice really needs the snow, but hopefully the person that made that decision won't be around after Feb 1st.

Tote Road wasn't nearly as bad as people were saying, upper Tote was actually quite good, some of the guns were a little wet. Lower Tote had very wet guns, but for the most part, the wet snow was avoidable.

Day 6

Wednesday was a great day, Sunny and warm, temps in the high 30's, low 40's. Sluice was pretty good, a little firm, but soft at the same time, definetly carvable. There were very few people out skiing. Lower Winters Way was all soft, it was just like spring. Snowguns are set up on Boardwalk ready to go when temps drop again hopefully thursday night. The Superquad is going to open ASAP, probably Sunday, but im sure they'll try for saturday.

Day 5

The 5th day of the season and the best day so far. Yesterday conditions were packed powder/hard pack, today it was soft and carvable. This morning it was kinda drizzly and overcast, with a little sleet but not really much precip, there was some breaks of sun in the afternoon. It was a bit chilly and windy but not quite cold enough to make snow.

4 Great days in a row

The 4th day of the season and the best so far, there were less people and still plenty of sunshine. Conditions on Sluice keep getting better. Snowmaking this morning was on Tote Road and The Landing but by this afternoon temps warmed up and all the guns were shut down. Lower winters Way is in perfect condition. Temps are going to be a little warm the next couple days so not a lot of snowmaking will happen, but when they fire back up, they'll be on Tote Road, The superquad is expected to be open by the weekend.

Amazing 1st weekend

What an amazing first weekend. We opened a week early with plenty of snow and great weather. Today Sluice was a bit firm, but good snow could be found. Lower Winters Way was in great condition, all groomed out and packed powder. There were a few guns on Sluice today and a bunch at the bottom of spillway. They were also making snow on the upper part of Lower Winters and on Lower Boardwalk and The Landing. Also they were making snow on Lower Tote Road and Peavy X-Cut. The Superquad is expected to open sometime this week. Temps look good for snowmaking most of the week. the Snowmakers are doing an amazing job, thank you boyne for making quality snow.

This is one of the best openings ever and it was a week earlier than usual. Sluice is completely covered and has a great base, no rocks to be found. The Snowmakers have done an amazing job.

Snowmaking has begun again

The Snowmakers are back to work on Sluice, they plan to fire guns up on Lower Winters way tonight when temps permit. They are using Ringer, SR7 and HKD Low E guns on Sluice. Hopefully opening day will be next Friday, looks like we have some great temps forecasted
